I've been trying to find a link between my biases in K-pop groups for as long as I remember. Back in 2021, I actually made a Google Form to make a histogram of the most common group positions of my biases. Surprisingly, there were only three main dancers, which doesn't really add up with my entire personality (aka dance). Either way, that list of biases is not very accurate anymore, and in all honesty, I was often choosing a bias without really getting to know the group's dynamics or their personalities. In the present day, my True stan list is pretty small, and even then, I only really keep up with BND (and &Team and Katseye to a lesser extent). However, I'm pretty sure I can pinpoint why each of these members became my biases.

First, the list. My top biases in the group are written normally and any sub-biases are in parentheses.
BoyNextDoor: Taesan (ult), (Sungho, Riwoo)
&Team: Nicholas, Yuma, (Euijoo)
Katseye: Megan
Seventeen: Jeonghan, Hoshi, (Wonwoo)
Aespa: Karina
NCT (I only keep up with Dream and 127): Jisung, Jungwoo

I think the most obvious common link is... um... cats... genuinely I see the catlike members and immediately take a liking to them in most cases. Most of them act like cats too--more reserved, but unafraid to be feisty when needed.
This brings us to the next criteria, which I think is the most influential. Most of these people are very different on stage compared to how they act in real life. You could say this for literally every idol, but these people have it to a more extreme extent, if that makes sense? And obviously, just because someone changes drastically on stage doesn't mean I will automatically bias them. My example is Yuma, who actually inspired me to write this post, specifically based on his first verse part in Go in Blind. I was watching the performance video and my jaw actually dropped. He's so Cat and Cute offstage that seeing him dance and hearing him sing so powerfully was cathartic. Sometimes you see an idol's personality and can immediately predict what their stage persona is like, you know? That's too plain for me, to put it bluntly. I think this applies to Jisung, Karina, Megan, Jungwoo, and Taesan. I think the reason I bias so many people like this is because that's how I am too. I literally wrote my Common App essay about how my persona on stage is like an alter ego that you probably wouldn't see if you only talked to me and didn't watch my performances. Dancing flips a light switch inside me---sometimes in classes I'll only do certain things when we're doing them full out and not while learning because I'm embarrassed to do them while not in dancer mode, for example. It makes sense, then, that I see myself in idols who do the same.
I fear I also like tsunderes (cough, cough, Taesan and Nicholas). It's just so endearing to see them try to deny their aegyoisms, and again that factors into their stage presence.
Otherwise, yes, I love my dancers. Hoshi especially is the definition of extrovert. He's so loud and carefree and that translates into his dancing. Riwoo he's an introvert, of course, but is exuberant when comfortable, and his dancing is explosive and clean at the same time. I bias them because I admire them and try to develop similar skills.
Yoon Jeonghan is the anomaly here, to be honest. You take one look at him and can predict what his voice sounds like and the graceful way he performs. I think his personality is just so funny and that's what attracted me to him. He is a silly, silly guy. Same with Sungho, though I think it was the Cat-isms that put me onto him.
Taesan is the special case. He's said it himself that he doesn't try to put on an act when he performs, but he totally does. His most extreme Taetnyangie baby cat rockstar Taesanisms are so far from his most extreme stage moments, and sometimes I think he doesn't realize how cute he can be on stage either :] My favorite examples are the IISILY stages, where you can really see him using every single one of his facial muscles to give us those expressions. He's so versatile. I could go on for a very long time about him, as you probably know, so the rest will stay between me and my Taesanisms Google Doc.
I think my current biases are also influenced by the fact that I'm not auditioning for K-pop companies anymore, mainly because I'm too old (somehow) and I'm spending too much money on uni to maintain the dream. Therefore, I live vicariously through idols who are similar in personality and performance style. It's both amusing and wistful to imagine myself in their place. Maybe in another life...
Okay goodbye let me stop being insane
(Me when there's a cat-like member who can perform super well: GOT A SWIMMING POOL FULL OF LIQUOR IMMA DIIIIIVE IN IT)
